Is technology based teaching the wave of the future? Is technology paved to overtake the traditional classroom, or will it simply enhance and expand it? In a recent whitepaper called "The Learning Evolution," Arizona State University's Jeffrey J. Selingo and SUNY-Albany's Ben Wildavsky discuss the answers to these questions, with a discussion on five ways technology will change the classroom of the future.

Technology is changing the educational landscape, but it's not necessarily totally re-writing it. "The Learning Evolution" looks at how the educational landscape will change and adapt with technology, ending up with something that looks much different than it is today, yet is still fundamentally the same.
2. More of Everything - Not a Replacement
The age-old question about technology in the classroom is whether or not it will replace traditional classroom instruction and materials. The whitepaper comes to the conclusion that the future classroom will not be one replaced by technology, but rather one where technology is added to what is already in place.
3. Learning Anytime, Anywhere
One of the biggest benefits of technology in education is that it enables instructors and students access to learning anytime and anywhere. As long as a student has an internet connection and device, education is possible.
4. Learning, by the Numbers
Technology puts more numbers in the hands of educators. They can now track not only academic performance, but also potential trajectories of educational outcomes for students, and much more, to improve student outcomes
5. Student Learning: Delivered by Multiple Providers in Multiple Ways
Finally, the piece looks at how technology is allowing students to learn from multiple providers in multiple ways. Hybrid courses are shown to have excellent learning outcomes as well, pointing to a potential future for education.
Technology based teaching is the wave of the future of education, but the changes it is bringing are, perhaps, not as over-reaching as once thought.
